Do you know what you’re selling to your customers? It can be hard to get new vapers to buy products from your store. For one thing, there are so many online retailers available. However, most beginner vapers aren’t always sure of what they’re buying. This makes it your job to educate them on what they’re after and why they should trust you as a seller.

This confusion that new vapers have is even further heightened when products are very similar. For instance, vape carts and vape tanks. They’re both attachments to vape devices and pod systems, they’re both responsible for holding the vaping material, and they both produce the vapor that vapers (a.k.a. your customers) will inhale.

All-in-all, carts and tanks are the same in terms of functionality, but they do have differences, which we’ll get to later. Knowing these differences will enable you to sell to your customers exactly what they need, and they’ll leave your store knowing exactly what they purchased and feeling well advised.

What Is a Vape Tank?

Vape tanks are small tanks that hold the e-liquid that is then vaporized by the vape device. However, vape tanks can come as integrated, interchangeable, or even disposable.

Vape tanks come in capacities as low as one or two milliliters and as large as 15 or 20 milliliters, perhaps even more. They can be built with glass, plastic, and other materials. Tanks enclose other important components like the coil and atomizer and are usually attached to the mouthpiece. Interchangeable and integrated tanks are usually reusable and require frequent cleaning and maintenance for optimal performance.

What Is a Vape Cart?

Vape cartridges are not all that different from tanks. In fact, tanks are a part of cartridges. The tank is merely a part of the vape cart. However, carts are always interchangeable or disposable, but never integrated, hence the difference in their name. There are also a few key differences, size being one, as cartridges are usually smaller than tanks. This is due to the fact that carts are usually built to fit multiple devices, which ties them down to a standard size and design, normally one that allows them to have a 510 thread that fits different pens. When cartridges have a custom design for a specific pen brand, they are not called carts but are referred to as vape pods that fit a specific pod system.

Other than that:

Vape carts are also meant to work as an attachment that stores and vaporizes the e-liquid with which it is filled. Some say that carts are only filled with thick oil-based vape material, but this is actually false. They can be, but they’re not restricted to a single type of material it can be used with.

Vape carts usually run smaller and can go as low as 0.5ml in size. Because carts are designed to fit a few different vape pen designs, they usually come in a cylindrical 510-threaded design.

Even if carts aren’t 100% disposable, they usually have a shorter life span than reusable tanks. This happens because when the quality of the flavor is no longer acceptable in carts, the user will usually throw it away. But when this happens with tanks, the user usually has the option of replacing atomizers and coils.

How Do Vape Tanks and Carts Work?

Tanks and carts work in a very similar way to one another. They both enclose and store the vape juice. At the bottom of the design, you’ll usually find the atomizer and coil. These are the components that heat and vaporize the liquid. From the atomizer, you can find what we call the ‘chimney’, the duct that moves the vapor from the coil to the mouthpiece when the vaper takes a drag.

But in order for the liquid to get to the coil, it needs to be transported from the tank reservoir to the coil. This is done through the wick. The wick absorbs the e-liquid in the reservoir and ties it to the coil. When the coil heats up it creates vapor using the oil absorbed by the wick. The e-liquid is then consumed puff by puff using this process.

Final Thoughts

In short, carts are built to be used with multiple devices and discarded more often, while tanks are built-in, interchangeable, and reusable parts that tend to last longer. However, tanks are also a part of the cartridge itself, which is something we explained above.
