Could this be the Future of Vaping? Water Based Vaping Devices
Estimated 0 min read
Recently, Innokin, one of the largest vape device manufacturers in the world, announced that they were working alongside vaping technology firm Aquios to create water-based vaping devices. In today’s blog we look at this revolutionary technology and break down the new Innokin “Lota” devices that all use water-based vape juice.

Water Based Vape Juice and Its Benefits
According to the vaping technology firm Aquios, traditional vape juices and devices currently don’t contain water content, and those vape juices that do include water have less than 3%. This is because water has very low viscosity levels, making it unsuitable to be used in vaping, leading to flooding and leaking problems.
If leaking is addressed with more wicking material, dry hits will occur. And if somehow a balance is achieved between the wicking material and the amount of water used, it would still not be enough to create an adequate amount of vapor.
However, all of this is changing with a new technology called “AQ30” which allows for water-based vape juice containing 30% water. According to Aquios’ website, they have achieved this by using special flavorings, water-based eliquid, and next-generation hardware.
The website states that the benefits of water-based vape juice include a purer taste, a smoother vapor, faster satisfaction, improved chemical stability, and reduced dehydration.
Water-based vape juice achieves a purer taste because there is less VG (vegetable glycerin) and PG (propylene glycol) in the final mix, which have been known to mask the intended taste of e-liquids. VG especially is sweeter, which can often interfere with the original flavorings. If more water is added to the e-liquid, a purer taste will come through since water is flavorless.
Water also creates smoother vapor and faster satisfaction because it is more readily accepted by our bodies (or has higher bioavailability). Also, more water in the e-liquid mixture means less PG, which has been known to cause throat irritation, creating a smoother vapor to inhale. They also state that water has an improved chemical stability because it has a lower boiling point. VG has a boiling point of 292°C, while PG has a boiling point of 189°C without water. By adding water to the mix, the boiling point of these two essential vaping ingredients is also lowered, decreasing the vaping temperature and the likelihood of releasing harmful substances (gasses) in the vapor.
Finally, Aquios states that water based vape juice will mean less dehydration from vaping because there will be less PG and VG in the final mix. VG tends to dry out the tongue and causes what’s known as “vapers tongue,” which creates a dry mouth. However, with more water in the mixture and less VG and PG, the vapor will be less conducive to dehydrating the user.
Innokin “Lota” Vape Products
Working alongside Innokin, Aquios has recently released a series of products they are dubbing “Lota” devices. These disposable vape products promise to create “...no leakage, enhanced flavour clarity and faster nicotine satisfaction.” There are three Lota devices in total, the Lota Enviro, the Lota F600, and the Lota Prefilled Pod Kit, each serving a specific market segment.
The Lota Enviro is a disposable that aims to reduce the carbon footprint of regular disposable products. It achieves this by using recycled materials and “user recyclable components.” After the disposable runs out of water-based e-liquid, it can be disassembled completely and every component can be recycled, except for the e-liquid chamber. The Lota Enviro will feature 600 puffs, ten flavors, and will carry 2ml of water-based e-liquid.
The Lota F600 is the flagship model, it’s intended for smokers transitioning into vaping. Because of this, it sports a stylish design and soft-touch surfaces and is lightweight and ideal for first-time vapers.
Finally, the Lota Prefilled Pod Kit is a closed pod system that comes with prefilled pods and a rechargeable battery, an excellent offering for vapers who would rather own a device for the long haul.
Conclusion
This new technology signals a bright future for vaping, a future where vaper’s tongue will be a thing of the past, better and purer flavors will be achieved, and more importantly, a future where lower temperatures will make vaping safer and healthier since the chemical stability of VG and PG won’t be compromised by higher boiling temperatures.
