Patrick Henry, known to many as "The Orator" was the voice of the revolution. Versed well in the law of the time, he gave many speeches before, during, and after the Revolutionary War that would prove vital in garnering support for the cause. When Patrick wasn't busy tending to his political duties, he would return to his wife, and their farm in Virginia. The land was quite exhausted from heavy tobacco cultivation, so Patrick and Sarah decided to sow the land with different crops. The most cherished of which were their blackberry bushes. A rich, blackberry sauce, spread over crumbly shortcake, would become a specialty desert of theirs that we are enjoying to this day!
