Evolution of Vaping Products

Before taking a look into the future of vaping, let’s take a glimpse into the past. Each generation of vapes has a particular technology that sets them apart. Here are the four generations of vapes that revolutionized vaping.

  • First Generation: This generation consists of cig-a-likes. Created in 2004 by Chinese Pharmacist Hon Lik, cig-a-likes had a flavor cartridge, an atomizer, and a battery. Two years later, another technology was introduced called the cartomizer, which united both the atomizer and the flavor cartridge.
  • Second Generation: The vape pens define this generation of vapes. Vape pens differ from cig-a-likes in that they have a better battery life, an on/off button, and came with a chip that regulated the electric current. Another advancement of this generation was creating the clearomizer. Just like a cartomizer, but now you could see the e-juice inside the atomizer.
  • Third Generation: The use of Mods marks the third generation. Mods were short for modified vapes, which were flashlights modified by hobbyists into powerful vapes with longer battery life. In this era of vapes, the technology escalated quickly, and now you could control temperature, wattage, and voltage thru a LED display.
  • Four Generation: Our current technology and the most popular vape today is the Pods mods. Most Pod mods use nicotine salts instead of freebase nicotine and are super small and discreet. Here the trend switched from power to ease of use.

Recent Innovations We Saw in 2020

Recent Innovations We Saw in 2020 | VapeRanger

Some of the recent innovations and vape trends we saw in 2020 include more advanced pod systems, BlueTooth technology capabilities, and voice activation.

Improved Pod Systems

Now that pod systems have become the most popular and modern vape devices available, it is only natural to see more advances made to pod mods and nicotine salt vapes.

We are now seeing pod systems with adjustable wattage, voltage, and airflow.

Bluetooth Technologies

One incredible advancement in the world of vaping is the use of BlueTooth technology. The technology is used to monitor and collect information from the device, like usage and e-juice levels.

The device works by pairing to a smartphone and, from there, letting you adjust modes of power while displaying important information.

It can also be used to adjust wattage, change temperature, or even locate it if it is misplaced. You can even use the technology to lock it if you believe it has been stolen.

Voice Activation

Another great technology that has recently hit the market is voice activation. While this technology is only yet available in big box mods that can house the hardware necessary to make voice activation a reality, like any smart device, it can switch temperature, wattage, and voltage through a series of commands. Pretty nifty if you ask us.

E-liquid trends to Consider | VapeRanger

Some of the new trends we expect in e-liquids include the use of caffeinated liquids and the more widespread use of nicotine salts.

Caffeinated E-Liquids

While we are not entirely sure if caffeine and nicotine go together, there certainly seems to be a trend among e-liquid vape manufacturers to offer caffeinated e-liquids.

The caffeine content used in e-liquids would come from ginseng, guarana, and taurine, and it would use significantly less caffeine than a coffee cup.

Take, for example, Pure Energy that has not only caffeine but also vitamins and enzymes. While the jury is still out on whether companies should caffeinate e-liquids, the trend always seems growing.

Nicotine Salts

The beginning of 2019 saw the entrance of nicotine salts into the vaping world, and if their success is any indicator, it seems like they are poised to become the standard nicotine form vapers will use in the future.

For nic salts to become the standard, they need to account for box mod users who need lower nicotine levels to vape them. The trend seems to be growing this upcoming year; although it has not happened yet, we believe most vape manufacturers will lower their nic salts nicotine strengths to 6mg and 3mg.

What to expect in 2021

With voice activation and BlueTooth connectivity now a reality, what we can expect shortly in vaping is childproofed vape hardware and dosage control.

Childproof Vape Hardware

With vape policies becoming more strict, it’s only natural that vape manufacturers try to address safety on all fronts. Having, for example, a voice-activated vape that only responds to your voice could easily keep your children away from your vape pen.

Dosage Control

Many vapers start vaping with the sole purpose of finally kicking their nicotine habit. Because some vapers start at higher nicotine levels, it might be harder for them to eventually come down to a more decent level where they could quit. But what if their intake could be measured and finally controlled?

With a smart vape that connects with your phone, you could assess how much nicotine you absorb in a single day and start to come down by measuring your progress daily. We can soon expect this from the vaping world.

Conclusion

While these trends are just predictions about what will happen in the upcoming year, we believe there is a strong probability they will become a reality, even if they are made in an industry as quickly-changing as vaping is.
